Our culture and churches so frequently associate porn and masturbation as being a male addiction or inclination, that females with this struggle often feel unlady-like or perverted. Therefore, many women are too ashamed to confess to fellow sisters, and believe they are one of the unfortunate few.
Don’t buy the lie, the spirit of lust is no respecter of persons.
Every encounter where I share my testimony within small groups, no less than half the girls confess to struggling with masturbation – and are even confused that they are part of the majority. Backgrounds vary from growing up in church as a sheltered virgin to having a past with pornography and promiscuity.

I am learning to stay ready so I never have to get ready to fight, but below are some of the weapons I’ve gained to walk in freedom so far:
1| Don’t focus on not lusting
…or masturbating. Your mind will only become a target for condemnation and defeat. Plus, the branches will only grow back if the root is not dealt with. Sexual arousal or stimulation is a gift with a God-wrapped purpose and timing, so it may not always disappear just because you ask.
Switch to the offensive instead and pursue joy!
Seek out the Lord’s satisfaction and pure pleasures daily (Psalm 145:16). Without vision it becomes hard to develop self-control (Proverbs 29:18), so prioritize your passions and plan effective ways to sharpen your gifts for Kingdom use.
You open your hand;
you satisfy the desire of every living thing. -Psalm 145:16
2| Reject prideful isolation
…and pursue community and transparency. The enemy’s false authority only appears real in darkness, so fight to live in the light and boast in your weaknesses. Strongholds lose their grip when accountability and godly friendships have permission to till the soil of your heart.
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment. -Proverbs 18:1
3| Feed your spirit man
…and take weak days as just that – weak. If experiencing increased temptation or withered strength to resist, take stock to see when you last feasted on the Word of God. Jesus was not being sarcastic when He declared, “man cannot live by bread alone” (Matthew 4:4).
Jesus: “I am the bread of life.” -John 6:48
4| Starve the flesh.
We have to live in the real world with its seductive sway, but if there is any flesh-stimulating media that you can avoid, cut it out! (Psalm 119:37) Everything is permissible but let us heed Paul’s caution to not be mastered by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). Missing out on the world is not the issue here.
More importantly, society is missing out on the real you …the freed you.
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
and give me life in your ways. -Psalm 119:37
We refuse to be bullied by the culture!
Let’s do whatever it takes to walk free.
