Why is purpose so important for Christians?

Because you did not choose yourself.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you
should go and bear fruit…”
–John 15:16

You have been saved for a Person, and for a purpose.

Yet, unless we get to know Who we’ve been saved for, we’ll return to the very enemy that we’ve been saved from. Same with the “what” – when you don’t keep in mind what you were set free to do, you return to the destructive things you were rescued from.

Which is why you needed salvation in the first place.

Remember, Jesus didn’t leave His throne room because He was bored.

He cared and came to see us dominate the sinful habits and desires that were keeping us away from living a full life. “I came that you might have life, and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

If you don’t pinpoint and guard this new kingdom lifestyle you get to enjoy, you will casually return to a lifestyle of foolishness and darkness. And that would be a waste of blood being spilled on your behalf.

We will waste what we don’t understand or what we don’t even know exists.

This week, focus on asking God what core values and skills you need to prioritize in this season. Getting a vision for the greatness He wants to shine in and through you will help you understand why the enemy has been trying to block your shots – it’s really not personal.

Still, you should take it personally and refuse to be bamboozled out of such an awesome privilege and freedom.

God allows you to encounter this opposition because it sharpens you and teaches you to run with more focus. It reminds you that you can’t afford to run aimlessly like someone without a mission. (1 Corinthians 9:26)

The rest of the introductory verse continues “so that whatever you ask the Father in my name,
He may give it to you” (John 15:16). When we’re walking in purpose, we understand that everything has already been prepared for us to succeed – so we have confidence to ask for it in prayer.

Let’s pray and receive the clarity and focus we will need to exchange busy-ness for productivity this season.

“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly.” -1 Corinthians 9:25-26
