Don’t Worry, Worship!

How do you stop yourself from going crazy with anxiety? Below are a few verses and reason to pause and stop this draining habit.
Stop and realize that worry is:
1. Above your paygrade
O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.
~ Psalm 131:1 
2. A waste of time

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

~Matthew 6:25-27


3. Illegal in the kingdom

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

~Philippians 4:6-7


4. Clinging to what’s not yours/not good
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
~ Psalm 84:11
5. A misuse of your imagination
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
~ Philippians 4:8
6. Keeping you stuck in immaturity

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

~James 1:2-4


7. Disrespectful to God

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

~ Matthew 7:9-11


After seeing how useless worry is, it just makes sense to stop right? Either God is a Good Father who takes care of you, and deserves worship — or He’s an unfaithful God who cannot be trusted to provide for you so you must worry about how to take care of yourself (good luck there)!

We know the truth. So let’s give all our worries and cares to God, for He cares about us. (1 Peter 5:7/ Psalm 55:22)

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? ~Hebrews 13:6
