It’s crazy how many people start a new year declaring it will be their best ever, compared to the few who actually arrive at December feeling accomplished. Even for me, there were so many years where I setup resolutions but made no drastic changes towards attaining those goals. I would just coast into the each year with the same dreams and hope to “see how things ended up”.

[bctt tweet=”Unfortunately, old habits don’t produce new results, even if it’s a new year.”]

Then again, who says every year needs to be maximized with purpose & intention? Maybe 2030 is when you should start taking yourself seriously and planning specific steps towards your destiny. I mean, most people don’t take a good look at the legacy they want to leave behind until their mid-thirties anyway.

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wasting the first 35 years of your life. *side-eye*

So if you’re done fooling yourself with empty promises, or know you’re not ready make any sacrifices for your dreams – it’s okay to acknowledge that this year will be just another year.

[bctt tweet=”If you plan to head nowhere, that’s where you’ll end up.”]

If you’re planning to head nowhere, you’ll get there effortlessly. Fortunately for you, I’ve put together a list of 6 practices that will help you hit that mark faithfully. Let’s dive in:

    • 1| Condone Confusion

Keep your vision of where you’re going loosely circling in your head. That way, you don’t have to worry about referring to it for focus or clarity when new opportunities pop up. Also, the great thing about a moving target is you don’t have to feel too bad about never hitting it. Everyone knows that’s pretty impossible, so remind everyone of that excuse if they try to check you. Plus, this journal fad for “writing down the vision” will soon pass I’m sure.
      (Habakkuk 2:2)

    • 2| Despise Discipline

Submitting to mentors or church leaders is great for encouragement, but you can’t let someone else give you insight or critique on how to live your own life. Regret nothing because you can’t truly learn lessons in life until you experience it yourself. Just follow your heart, and do your best in all things – but there’s absolutely nothing you can do after that to control your emotions. Wisdom is not for everyone.
      (Proverbs 15:22)

    • 3| Avoid Accountability

It’s seriously too hard to trust anyone these days, even in the church. So pursuing a transparent friendship or mentor is definitely out of the question. They’re great if they come along, but not something to lose much sleep over. Plus, whatever happens in your private life is between you and Jesus alone. You can do bad all by yourself.
      (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

    • 4| Tolerate Time-Wasters

…Or “randoms” as Heather Lindsey would call them. If a guy says he just wants to be your friend, it’s pretty rude to not give him your number. You never know these days, he may be the one that ends up getting saved and becoming your husband. Therefore, giving him endless & undistracted time could become the stuff fairytales are made of. This blind loyalty also applies to outrageous BFFs that have been with you since middle school. Even though their lukewarm mindset continues to sabotage your commitments to yourself, at least they’ll be there for you when you fail to move forward in life.
      (1 Corinthians 15:33)

    • 5| Pardon Your Prayerlessness

Let’s not get too deep here. Everyone knows it’s extremely hard to build consistency in prayer. And rightly so, because no man is greater than his prayer life. However, consistent friendship & prioritized intimacy with God is a lifestyle for the spiritual greats only. The majority do quite fine getting by on prayers at mealtime, and whispers for help in the nick of time. Jesus is your homeboy so God knows your heart anyway.
      (Psalm 27:4)

    • 6|Please People

Obviously, your boss, mom, church community, and friends will ultimately determine your destiny. Therefore, you want to be sure to keep them all happy – all at once. Having to respectfully say no to any of these parties could cause them to see you in a lesser light. And that would surely be the end of the world as you know it. So tread carefully next year, and avoid stepping on any toes – even if you sense God speaking to you otherwise.
      (Galatians 1:10)

Lionheart, hopefully you can sense my *eye roll* throughout this entire post. None of us own 2016 or know how it will end. Yet it’s my prayer that you’ll  grow in grace and discipline this upcoming year, to obey and complete the things God asks you to steward.
